International airline activity

Fifty-three international scheduled airlines operated services to/from Australia during the month (includes five dedicated freight airlines but excludes airlines operating only via code share arrangements).


International scheduled passenger traffic in June 2010 was 2.092 million compared to 1.830 million in June 2009 – an increase of 14.3 per cent.


This follows on month on month increases of more than 9 per cent recorded between September 2009 and March 2010 and more moderate increases of 4.3 per cent in April 2010 and 6.9 per cent in May 2010.


The chart below compares monthly passenger traffic for the year ended June 2010 with monthly passenger traffic for the year ended June 2009. Passenger traffic for the year ended June 2010 was 25.620 million which is a 9.1 per cent increase over the year ended June 2009.


Total seats made available on international scheduled operations to/from Australia during June 2010 were 2.828 million – an increase of 8.8 per cent compared to June 2009. The overall seat utilisation percentage has increased from 71.4 per cent in June 2009 to 74.8 per cent in June 2010.
